Everyday Moments Make the Best Memories

Hi everyone!

If you have kids, then you know how frustrating it is when they bicker, fuss, and fight.  But the times when they exist in harmony?  Those are the best!  I took this cute snapshot of the kids last July when they were simply together watching television, listening to music, and enjoying each other.  I used the Simple Stories Homespun collection, which is so beautiful!  Check out my Homespun 2-page layout from April if you missed it.

So here's my layout!  Do you see what element I carried over from the 2-page layout from April?  :)

I didn't follow a sketch this time, but my inspiration for the design was this Page Maps sketch created for Back Porch Memories.  I liked the vertical paper on the left, but I only had 1 photo, so I improvised on my own after borrowing the vertical strip element.

I started with a piece of CTMH Colonial White cardstock and a thick strip of the flower paper from Homespun.  I messy-sewed along the right-hand side and then attached a piece of plaid chevron on the left-hand side.  I sewed just inside each edge of the chevron to create texture, and then capped the end with a red ribbon knot.

For the photo area, I used the wood paper as my base, inked the edge and layered the distressed heart paper.  I matted the photo using the grid paper, and included the "It's a wonderful life" banner tag underneath with 3D foam for dimension.  My journal spot is right underneath.

To create more interest around the photo, I used the yellow doily, the green heart, the red banner, and the "little moments" tag from the Bits & Pieces.  I also created an embellishment area in the top right using a thin strip of the flower paper, three hearts, and sewing.

Finally, I created the title by cutting out the words from one of the papers from the collection (popping them up with 3D foam) and cut "memories" using my Cameo.

How have you used this pretty collection?  I'd love for you to share your projects in the comments!

I hope you have a great Monday and a great week, and I hope it includes a little bit of chocolate.  :)  Happy scrapping!

Positively Cool

Hello Friday, and hello paper crafts people!

My nephew had a birthday a couple of days ago, so I made him a square card using one of my very favorite Echo Park collections "All About a Boy".  I *love* the colors in this collection. This stamped 6x6 card is going to be on the Practical Scrappers blog today highlighted stamped projects.  I used Close To My Heart stamps S1204 (sentiment) and A1150 (chevron).

This was a relatively simple card.  I stamped the chevron in several blue inks to create an ombre effect, and then sewed in orange across the middle of the chevrons and over the various patterned papers.  I outlined the blue patterned paper with stitching as well.

I stamped the sentiment "You are positively COOL!" and popped it up with 3D foam tape.

Now I just need to send my nephew the card!  I did text him to wish him happy birthday, but it's not the same as getting something in the mail....even if belated.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Chocolate hugs,

April Layout Sketch Interpretation for Practical Scrappers

Happy April Fools Day, y'all!  And happy Tuesday.  Can you believe it's April already??

C-R-A-Z-Y, right?!  I'm pretty sure it was *just* Valentine's Day....amiright?

Well, time marches on.  It's time for the Practical Scrapper's April Sketch.  And it's a cute one designed by Christine Meyer:

I decided to streeeetch out the sketch to make a two-page layout so I could scrap some photos from my visit with my mom, brothers, and their families.  I used the new Simple Stories Homespun collection, which I found so much fun to work with.  The papers were so inspiring and colorful.

I started with two pages of CTMH Colonial White cardstock and sewed a large heart in dark blue thread and spattered some red ink across the top 2/3 of the pages.  I then chose three papers from the Homespun collection.  I found a chevron border to cut using my Cameo.  I cut the first chevron border out of the plaid pattern, and then turned the cardstock over and cut the second one for the right-hand page so that the end of the first page would match up with the beginning of the 2nd page.  I repeated with the heart pattern.  I inked the edges of the borders with CTMH Cranberry ink and adhered over the blue flower pattern across both pages.

I matted my five photos using the Colonial White cardstock and inked the edges in Cranberry and Outdoor Denim ink.  I placed them on the pages, and then started the embellishments.  I pulled some tabs and arrows for the pages, one of the journal squares for my journaling, and then some other pieces to use for the embellishment cluster in the top right.  I sewed a part of the chevron down and layered my chosen pieces over.

I also fussy-cut a lot of the small hearts from the heart patterned paper to sprinkle throughout my layout - some with 3D pop dots.

For the title, I chose the LOVE tag, put Juniper cardstock behind it, and glued a small yellow heart in the middle of the "O".  I used my Cameo to cut out "Family".  After gluing the letters down, I faux stitched in blue ink to help it pop off the page more.  A yellow flower and red twine completed the tag.

To balance the layout, I cut a corner of the plaid paper and layered with a blue flower and red twine.

I hope you liked my interpretation of the layout!  If you liked it, I'd be thrilled if you'd share it.  I'd also love to see your interpretation of the sketch!  You can share on the Practical Scrappers blog or Facebook page, and make sure to tell them I sent you.

Have a great week filled with chocolate kisses!
