Magic Kingdom Lunch Antics - My Scraps & More Sketch #111

Howdy y'all!  It's time for the first August sketch reveal for My Scraps & More Sketches, and what a great sketch!  I opted to dig into more Disney photos and use Simple Stories Say Cheese II - such fun!  (My The Happiest Place on Earth layout uses this collection too, and my Selfie Magic layout uses the original Say Cheese collection.)  Check out my layout below and then head over to the MSAM sketch blog to see all the other fabulous designers' takes!

I started with textured black cardstock and knew I wanted to cut "windows" out using my Cameo.  I decided that rounded rectangles would be fun.  I made sure I had space for two photos above them.

After cutting it, I trimmed different papers from the collection (many from scraps!) and decided where I wanted most of them to go.  I backed the cut cardstock with an offwhite cardstock to match the collection, placed some papers underneath and adhered it all together.  Then I layered some on top of the windows.

I sewed along the middle, around my journaling window, and top left corner with gold thread - it matches the gold in the collection and also looks great with the wood veneer embellishments!

The header section with the photos came together quickly.  I used one of the border sections from the collection and trimmed the natural border out and around the heart on the right.  I inked the edges of the photos with black Stazon ink to help them stand out a bit.  I added a scallop trim from a barcode strip and some embellishments including a geotag sticker, wood veneer star, a gold star sequin, and the gold "happy" (all from the collection except the gold star, which is from Studio Calico).

I made sure to leave one of the larger rectangles as my journal spot and finished it with a sewed border and wood veneer heart.

I cut "Lunch Antics" out using my Cameo and used red stickers from the collection to spell out "Magic Kingdom" sideways to make sure it fit where I wanted it.

Well, that's it for me!  I hope you are inspired to create your own layout to link up at My Scraps & More sketches for a chance to win a fun prize!  Here's the sketch:

Do it!  And make it a great weekend.

Have fun!  See you soon!

The Happiest Place on Earth | My Scraps & More Sketch #108

What's up, y'all?  It's time for another My Scraps & More sketch reveal.  At first, I couldn't think of any photos I specifically wanted to scrap, and then remembered I have a **whole box** of photos from our trip to Walt Disney World in November that are waiting!  We had a blast - it was our first trip there as a family.  And we got to meet Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, too!  And Presley had fun snapping selfies with all the characters.

This time, I reached for a 5x7 photo of us in front of THE castle at Magic Kingdom the night before Thanksgiving.  Our first day at Magic Kingdom was on Saturday, and we went for Magic Kingdom day two on Wednesday to eat an early Thanksgiving meal at Liberty Tree Tavern as well as visit rides we didn't get to see Saturday.  And this time?  We stayed for the parade and the fireworks - we watched from the Rose Garden...it truly was magical!

I have had the idea for using the famous Mickey ears as a cut file for one of my layouts for awhile, and looking at the sketch, I decided to turn the larger background rectangle into Mickey after rotating the sketch 90 degrees.  I sewed around Mickey's face after cutting to help give definition.  The color of the castle was perfect to use Simple Stories Say Cheese II!

I cut the red paper with the polka dots from the "2X12, 4X12 & 6X12 Elements" paper, cutting around the scallops.  I added a layer of the striped blue paper, and added a gold mickey face I saved from our travel agency mail that came with our paperwork along with a phrase sticker.  I used my Cameo to cut a chevron strip using the yellow star paper.

For the scalloped areas in the sketch, I opted to use hearts cut with my Cameo of the Simple Stories Say Cheese II cut files combined with stickers.  I turned the blue one above into my journal spot!

I combined the bottom hearts with other stickers, too.

Finally I added the title.  I had been thinking about what my title should be the whole time I worked on the layout, and I knew I wanted to use the curve of the Mickey ears to help highlight it.  Here's what I came up with using different alpha stickers from the collection.  I wanted "happiest" to stand out, so I used the gold foil for that word.

I added a few star stickers, gems, and sequins to help add interest the the layout.

Here is the sketch by Katrina Hunt:

We'd love for you to join us using this sketch - be sure to link it up for your chance at some scrappy goodies from My Scraps & More!  There are a lot of other awesome takes on Katrina's sketch, so head back to My Scraps & More sketches to view them.

Me & My Hundred Acre Woods Friends

Happy Sunday evening my scrappy friends.  I'm excited to share a layout today that I created using a some of my stash.  Now, let me tell you about my stash.  I have a problem.  I have a **VERY BIG** paper hoarding problem...ahem.  And I know I'm not the only one, but when the copyright year on the barcode strip of your paper is from 4 years ago, you know it's bad.  I have paper even older than that, but I digress!

Today I'm using a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy February Week 1.  In addition, I'm doing the Scrap Our Stash February stash challenge for WASHI -> my layout has: wooden embellishment, alpha stickers, splatter stamp, Hello Fall paper, and ink.

This was such a FUN layout for me - I got to meet my very favorite characters in the whole world last Thanksgiving!  But with all the colors in the photo - including my purple shirt - I was having a tough time figuring out what papers to use.  Enter Little Yellow Bicycle's "Hello Fall" from 2011!

I only had about 5 sheets of paper from this collection and none of the embellishments.  So I decided to pull out my Silhouette PixScan mat to cut the flower/doilies from the middle of one of the papers.  If you don't have this mat, I highly recommend you get one!  It lets you cut out patterns, stamped images, and more.  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind fussycutting sometimes, but this can be a real time saver -- and paper saver, too!  (And if you are looking for help calibrating your mat, I have a tutorial that may help.)

To start, I decided to flip the sketch.  My base paper has a built-in green strip, but I trimmed a strip from the leaf paper to adhere next to it on the right side of my layout.  Then I sewed along the left side of the strip.

I matted my photo with the green side of one of the papers, inked the edge in dark purple, then matted it again with the orange side of one of the papers (also inked).  I included a tab to highlight the date.  Then I included an embellishment cluster below the photo in line with the sketch.

I wanted to stamp the splatters using the Tim Holtz Spills & Splatters stamp (I trimmed the splatter area next to the cup rings to use separately).  So I put the photo area and the flower/doilies where I knew they'd be and stamped near each doily.  Then I adhered everything to my page to create my title.  I chose Simple Stories Sn@p! Studio Typeset alphas for "acre" and "woods" and stamped "hundred and "#friends" using my oldie-but-goodie Close To My Heart Solo Alpha sets.  I cut "me & my" using my cameo, and popped up the ampersand using 3D tape (hence the pesky shadow...one of these days I will learn how to fix this using Photoshop Elements!).  The doily on the left is also popped up.

After adding some gems, I finished the layout with a small journaling spot to show how special Pooh Bear and Tigger are to me.

I hope you enjoyed my layout today, and I hope it inspires you to reach into your stash - you just may not know what serendipitous goodies you will find!

In the famous words of Tigger, "T.T.F.N.....ta ta for now!

Selfie Magic

Hi everyone!

Thanks for joining me this Monday.  So normally, November and December are very busy for me (I think everyone is busy!), but this year, January was also packed with activity.  February is also proving to be busy, but I've decided I must spend more time scrapping than I have the past few months.  I have a 4-day weekend coming up, which I'm very much looking forward to since I work full-time.  And then, I have a scrapping weekend at the end of February with a few friends.  What better way to end February?

Today I'm featuring my very favorite recent photo of Presley.  She just turned 13 (eek!), so selfies are completely "normal" for her - she's grown up in the digital age and saw smartphones come about.  So when we were at Disney World in November, not only did we get great photos with characters from the Disney photographers, but we also got many fun, candid shots.  Presley took a selfie with every character she met.

Isn't this shot perfect??  I am very grateful to whomever was in the Tigger costume...they were the most fun character we met.  The smile his close-up nose gave her was the best gift.  <3  I used My Scraps & More sketch #99 by Audrey Yeager (loving the banners!) and the Say Cheese collection by Simple Stories

So I used white textured cardstock as my base and started with the largest banner first.  I used my Cameo to make sure the photo would fit inside.  The journaling banner was created with the white space from the banner cut on the very left, and I backed it with the B side.

Once I had the banners I wanted, I decided on a strip from the Border & Title Strip elements page.  I sewed the banners underneath the strip, sticking closely to the sketch.  I included a camera brad and a tab cut out to put above the photo.

I used a black arrow clip to point to the subtitle, and I trimmed a small square for the journaling spot.

For the bottom right area, I trimmed a triangle using the yellow star paper.  I sewed along the bottom edge, then added letters to create "selfie" and the magic banner for the title. Finally, I stamped a few stars and hearts that I watercolored using red and gold ink sprays mixed with water.

I think all scrapbooking is fun, but I especially had fun with this one.  :)

Make it a wonderful week!

Let the Magic Begin | MME December Sketch

Happy 2015 everyone!  What a fun year 2014 has been.  Of course, not all of it was perfect, but it was nice to have a generally good year for a change.  One of our most special things for 2014 was our Thanksgiving visit to Walt Disney World.  And I'm finally starting to scrapbook that trip - it may take me all of 2015 to get through!  Time will tell. :)

Today's page is focused on our first day at WDW - we chose to kick off the trip visiting The Magic Kingdom...it was a great day, so I wanted to highlight it using a photo taken at the beginning, first thing in the morning.  I used the December sketch from MME.

I started with a textured cardstock base spritzed with dark blue.  I then cut out the word "Magic" from my base using a free font and my Cameo.  I backed "Magic" with CTMH Outdoor Denim cardstock to match the blue in the MME Jubilee Tangerine collection that I used with this layout.

I trimmed some strips, circles, stars, a banner, and a tab using Tangerine paper, which I inked the edges of with dark blue ink.  I sewed along the left of the strips to create additional interest.  I matted my photo with Outdoor Denim cardstock, tucked the banner behind it and sewed a bit along the edge.

I finished the page with some journal strips.  Enamel dots and brads came from the Now & Then, Market Street, and Cut & Paste collections.  "Let" and "The" words for the title were trimmed from Tiny Word Stickers from The Sweetest Thing collection.  A few sequins were also added for a final touch.

Thanks for stopping by today on this brand new year!  I hope your 2015 is filled with peace, love, joy, and a bit of chocolate.  xoxo
