Note 2 Self | Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop with Giveaway!

Hi everyone-

Today's page is part of the Scrapping Our Stash blog hop (and boy what a stash I've collected through the years!), and I'm so excited to share my layout with you for ALL THE REASONS but mainly:
  1. I adore this J'Adore collection from BasicGrey
  2. It's based on a sketch by Audrey Yeager she did as guest designer for the Scrap Our Stash Challenge Blog (not related to our hop) and
  3. It's a page about me.  Do you find it hard to do pages about yourself?  I do!!  (I have created this one and this one.)
You should have arrived from Christine's awesome boy-themed layout...but the full hop list is at the end if you get stuck or want to start at the beginning.  So grab some chocolate, hop along with us, and enter below for your chance to win some scrappy goodness from My Scraps & More!  But first:

I started with a blank slate of white textured cardstock.  I chose two inks to create the splatters (CTMH Outdoor Denim and Tulip) on the top left and bottom right.

I trimmed the "Cuddle" paper first into two pieces - I adore those pretty flowers!  I layered a strip of the B-side of the "Sweetheart" paper and a strip of Studio Calico's Darling Dear Hepburn Chevron patterned vellum that I scalloped (love that stuff!).

I next trimmed rectangles from "Kiss", "Cuddle", and "Sweetheart" to mat my photo.  To help my photo pop a little more, I needed a little layer of white, and to create a different texture to the photo area, I used one of my dies from Mama Elephant's Peek-a-Frame set.  And before I put my photo mat area on the layout over my strips, I machine stitched several circles to go along with the sketch.

After I put the photo area on, I dug through my embellishment stash and chose some sequins, wooden hearts, and enamel dots to sprinkle around the circles and among the ink splotches.

And then, it hit me:  Must. Fussycut. Flowers!

I tucked a minty Maggie Holmes tag behind the photo area to complete the challenge Tic Tac Toe!  I also fussycut a wobbly circle to frame my journal area.  I used alpha stickers from the J'Adore collection for "Note", a minty "2" and then I used my Cameo to cut "self".

I hope you liked my layout!  And now, the fun part:  a giveaway!  I'm giving away one $15 e-gift certificate to My Scraps & More.  All you have to do is:
  • Be or become a member of my blog with Google Friend Connect or Bloglovin AND
  • Leave a comment on this blog post
Easy peasy!  You have until Monday, August 31st at noon Central time to enter for your chance to win.  International entries are fine, and I use random.com to choose the winner.  I'll announce the winner here on my blog on Tuesday, Sept. 1st.  Good luck!

Next up on the hop is Katrina!  Head over to see her lovely puppy-themed layout!

Thanks sooo much for hopping along with us!  Below find the sketch, challenge Tic Tac Toe with my choices highlighted, and the full hop list.

#Cool - My Scraps & More Sketch 112 Reveal

Hi everyone, and welcome to Friday.  It's the most wonderful time of the week!  And the first and third Fridays each month, I'm honored to be part of My Scraps & More sketch design team reveal for sketch 112.  It's such a fun team (be sure to go check out the other layouts they created), and the MSAM store is one of my favorites!  The Simple Stories "So Rad" collection just *jumped* into my cart the last time I was browsing - imagine that!  I guess I *don't* have too much paper tucked in various crevices in my office/scrappy room...<cough>.

So anyhoo...today, I'm sharing a layout with you based on a sketch by Gina Lideros.  She created a .png file for us - and you! - to use on your digital cutting machines.  I enlarged the hexagons in her .png to create the cuts for my base, and then I backed each one with a different pattern from the So Rad collection.  Fun!!  Check it out:

After I cut the hexagons and backed my base page with different papers, I decided to sew around a few of them for effect.  Isn't the plaid paper awesome?  And how cool is it that my husband had just taken this photo of my little man a couple of weeks ago - his shirt and shorts match the papers perfectly.  I didn't even plan it!

After sewing, the rest of the layout came together quickly.  I matted my photo with light blue paper and then backed it with a neutral to help the photo stand out and keep the eye focused on the photo.

Once the photo was in place, the embellishments went on easily!  Around the photo, I used a sentiment sticker "caution: extreme awesome inside".  I tore a strip of the washi paper tape and put that in the top left side of the photo - I used one of the strips that has hexagons on it!  Perfect!  Then I topped the tape with a chipboard circle element.

To ground the layout, I cut a strip of the circles with stars and sewed underneath.  I used my Tiny Attacher (I love that thing!) to put in a few staples.  More chipboard elements - the curly arrow, the "awesome", and some stars.

Then on the top left, I adhered a shorter strip of the circle/star paper, more sewing, more staples, and another chipboard arrow.

Time for the title!  I used another chipboard element.  Next, I sprinkled some enamel dots on some of the background papers and even used one of the stars on top of a star on the paper.  See it in yellow below?

My journaling is a hidden tag with a pull tab trimmed from a hexagon and layered with another sticker.  It slides behind the photo area nicely.

Here is Gina's sketch:

Don't forget to create your own layout and link up on the MSAM sketch blog for your chance to win a great prize pack from My Scraps & More.  Do it!  I promise you will enjoy the sketch as much as I did.

Have a super weekend!

Magic Kingdom Lunch Antics - My Scraps & More Sketch #111

Howdy y'all!  It's time for the first August sketch reveal for My Scraps & More Sketches, and what a great sketch!  I opted to dig into more Disney photos and use Simple Stories Say Cheese II - such fun!  (My The Happiest Place on Earth layout uses this collection too, and my Selfie Magic layout uses the original Say Cheese collection.)  Check out my layout below and then head over to the MSAM sketch blog to see all the other fabulous designers' takes!

I started with textured black cardstock and knew I wanted to cut "windows" out using my Cameo.  I decided that rounded rectangles would be fun.  I made sure I had space for two photos above them.

After cutting it, I trimmed different papers from the collection (many from scraps!) and decided where I wanted most of them to go.  I backed the cut cardstock with an offwhite cardstock to match the collection, placed some papers underneath and adhered it all together.  Then I layered some on top of the windows.

I sewed along the middle, around my journaling window, and top left corner with gold thread - it matches the gold in the collection and also looks great with the wood veneer embellishments!

The header section with the photos came together quickly.  I used one of the border sections from the collection and trimmed the natural border out and around the heart on the right.  I inked the edges of the photos with black Stazon ink to help them stand out a bit.  I added a scallop trim from a barcode strip and some embellishments including a geotag sticker, wood veneer star, a gold star sequin, and the gold "happy" (all from the collection except the gold star, which is from Studio Calico).

I made sure to leave one of the larger rectangles as my journal spot and finished it with a sewed border and wood veneer heart.

I cut "Lunch Antics" out using my Cameo and used red stickers from the collection to spell out "Magic Kingdom" sideways to make sure it fit where I wanted it.

Well, that's it for me!  I hope you are inspired to create your own layout to link up at My Scraps & More sketches for a chance to win a fun prize!  Here's the sketch:

Do it!  And make it a great weekend.

Have fun!  See you soon!
