Happy Bird-day - Practical Scrapper Card Sketch

Happy Tuesday fellow chocolate-lovers and scrappers!  Today I'm popping in to show you a quick card that I created for the last Practical Scrappers card sketch (all but the monthly blog hop will go away after this week).  ((Waaaah!))

I went all the way back to 2010 in my Basic Grey stash for these materials!

Here is my card:

And here is the sketch by Christine Meyer that inspired the card:

All materials used are from the Basic Grey "Life of the Party" collection (with the exception of one yellow Maya Road star pin and a strip of CTMH Sunflower organdy ribbon).

I hope you have a fun week!

Card Sketch: You Are My Happy

Hello fellow choco/scrappy friends!  Today I wanted to share a card with you, one I created for the Practical Scrappers card sketch for April.  I love Basic Grey, and when I saw the sketch by Christine Meyer, I knew the Mon Ami collection would be perfect for it.

Here's the "You are my happy" card that I created with it:

I took the gray paper and cut a 4.25" x 6.5" piece for the card base.  I cut the flower paper (2.75" x 4") and the green paper (3.5" x 4") and adhered them to the gray base.  I then stitched twice in dark gray thread around the inside of the rectangle created with the two pieces.  Next I cut a strip of the orange paper (5/8" x 4.25") and adhered that over the seam of the two pieces.

I put a piece of Fancy Pants Artist Edition filter paper (pinking edge) in the center and then stitched lines from the center in dark orange thread to create a sunshine effect.

Next I fussycut several of the flower clusters from the patterned paper and layered them over the center using 3D pop dots.  I cut a flower for the center using gray paper, green paper, a punched flower, and an orange circle from the paper.  I inked a few of the edges and used a 3D pop dot to include it as my center layer.

To finish the card, I stamped "You are my HAPPY" (from the Close To My Heart National Stamping Month special stamp set from 2013) in Juniper ink in the bottom right corner rather than the top center since I used a patterned paper on the top.

I hope you liked my rendition of the sketch.  I'd love to see what you make with it and what papers and color combinations you choose.  Share the sketch and link up what you create on the Practical Scrappers blog or Facebook page.

Have a super, chocolate/scrappy-filled week!

Card Sketches with Practical Scrappers

Hello everyone!  I hope you are enjoying your day today.  I've been so busy scrapping that I have fallen a little behind in my card-making.  BUT, I am catching up because of the sketches from Practical Scrappers and a few others.

I wanted to share two cards with you based on sketches for Practical Scrappers, and please go check out all the wonderful creations from the other talented Practical Scrappers designers!

My first card is based on a sketch by Christine Meyer.  The sketch:

I love the sketch!  And it made me really eager for spring (more than I already was!).  I opted to do a 5" x 7" card and use some Simple Stories stash of 100 Days of Summer "Simple Pleasures" paper.  Doesn't it make you want the warm days of early summer to get here?

I layered the flower pattern on CTMH Cranberry cardstock.  On top of that is white cardstock edged with CTMH Juniper ink.  I outlined the white cardstock with machine stitching in red.  The butterflies were created on my Cricut Imagine using the CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge...Butterfly #1 and the layer.  I alternated the base and layer for the butterflies and left a few of the smaller ones unlayered.

I finished the card with the sentiment, some small hearts stamped with Juniper ink, and some red gems.  I purposely didn't adhere the wings or wing layers down so they'd add some dimension.

My second card is based on a card by Patty Grau Selah.  Here's the sketch:

And here's my rendition (I chose to do another 5" x 7" card):

I used My Mind's Eye Now & Then "Milo" for this card.  It's such a fresh line!  I started by layering the silver chevron pattern on CTMH Outdoor Denim cardstock and stitching in dark blue along the bottom silver chevron.

I layered the N&T Inspired Forest paper onto Outdoor Denim cardstock and then cut a circle out of the middle.  I layered some old fibers I had around the edge of the circle.

To finish the card, I cut a few banners, outlined with Outdoor Denim ink and layered underneath the center.  I fussycut several flowers out (one from the paper and the rest stamped on the back).  After I adhered them down (one with a pop dot to create dimension), I put some N&T Enamel Dots in the centers of the flowers.  The "Thanks" sticker completed the card.

I hope you enjoyed the cards, and we'd love to see your version of these sketches, so don't be shy in sharing them.

See you soon...and until then, chocolate dreams!
