{The Good Stuff} Published in Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine's 50th Issue!

Hello, hello!

I have barely been through the Summer 2018 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today once, and can I just say, "It's fabulous!"  It's the 50th issue, and they've gone all-out!  I have a layout published in it as well, and I'm so excited to share it with you!

We went to the Houston Zoo this past spring break and the weather could not have been better!  My daughter isn't in many of our photos from that day - 16 year olds want to go off and see the animals with their own friends...weird!  (lol)

I love this Fancy Pants Designs collection (I wish I could have 20 of those "The Good Stuff" ephemera!), and I used a cut file from SCT Magazine (as created by Nicole Nowasad) as well.  I looooove her cut files!

Go soak up all the good stuff in this issue, friends...you don't want to miss it!

Little Moments Layout

Hello friends!  Are you excited about the Summer issue of SCT Magazine coming out tomorrow?  It's their 50th issue, and I know they will celebrate in style.  I have a layout in this coming issue, so before the issue comes out, I wanted to share the sweetest spring layout that was in the Spring issue.

Here is my daughter helping water our flowers.  <3

I adore these photos, but I love them even more with all the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Studio goodness surrounding them!  I also used a bunch of flower cut files from Just Nick Studios (plus some fun fussycut flowers).  The watering can is an Echo Park cut file that I did some hand stitching around.  So fun!

{Little Moments} Published in Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine

You guys!  If you haven't yet had a chance to view the Spring 2018 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine either in print or online, don't delay...it's stunning!  They pack so much goodness into each issue - and this one is no different.

I'm honored to have a layout published highlighting my daughter helping water our plants nearly 14 years ago.  <3  I used mostly Cocoa Vanilla Studio Bohemian Dream...the colors are sooo pretty...plus cut files from Echo Park and Just Nick Studio.

"Thankful" - Published in the Fall 2017 Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine!

Hi there everyone!  I'm playing catch-up on my blog and wanted to share with you a layout that was published in the Fall 2017 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine, my very favorite scrapbook publication!  I've been an avid reader for many years - it just inspires me every single issue!

This layout was of our first Thanksgiving as a family of four, in 2008.  I can't believe Paxton was that tiny once!!

I received some Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L in my gift from Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine from my Lovely layout, so I used it again for this fun layout to pop up the layers.  Here are a few close-ups.

"Lovely" - Published in the Summer 2017 Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine!

Hello scrappy friends!  Well, it's certainly been an interesting 4+ months living through a horrific flood from Hurricane Harvey.  I've missed you guys, and I hope I can hop back on the papercrafting saddle more consistently now.  Our home is still not finished, but we are making progress.  All in due time, and we appreciate everyone's prayers and thoughts.  <3

I wanted to share my very favorite layout that was published this past June in the Summer Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine.  I was truly beyond excited about it!  

I wanted to create a layout with my grandmother as the star.  She was the most beautiful ballerina, and she ended up owning and running her own dance studio that I practically grew up in.  I paired a black and white photo of her with the *stunning* Cocoa Vanilla Studio collection Wild at Heart.

The cut file is from Cocoa Vanilla Studio Colour Me Happy collection, and I also fussycut a lot of flowers to add in.  In addition to paper, enamel dots, and flowers from CVS, I used Thickers from American Crafts, a bow and gold heart from Crate Paper, and vellum and a fringed paper strip reminiscent of a ballerina's tutu.  Here are a few close ups.

Love Layout with Lovely Day

Well hello there crafty friends!  I hope you are having a lovely July in your neck of the woods.  The family and I just got back from a getaway in Boulder, Colorado.  We had many adventures, and now I'm so tired that I need a day off - ha!  I haven't printed out or had the chance to scrap anything from our week in Colorado, but I thought I'd share a layout from a vacation hubby and I took in 2008.  Take a look:

I love the Dear Lizzy Lovely Day collection!!  The colors are just...muah!  I printed my black and white photos in a grid using the Pic Stitch app, then printed it out as a 4x4 photo.  

Next I cut the Just Nick Studio cut file "Love Actually" from white textured cardstock.  But instead of doing white-on-white, I decided to lightly brush the cut files with CTMH Juniper ink using my ClarityStamp Stencil Brushes.  They are fun to use (you can see how I used them on this layout as well), and you don't need a lot of ink or pressure to see a subtle effect.  My strips got darker as they go down the page.  Here's a close up.

  
Here's a quick look at my journaling strips.  I used the KG Only Human font, and I matched the blue from the collection for my font color easily with a tip I've shared before.

How fun is that gold foil "love" ephemera piece?  I also find it fun to do a diagonal piece along the edges - I think it gives some extra interest to a square layout.  And I love to sew on my layouts - this one has stitching along the inside edge of the white cardstock. Enamel dots are also great to use!

Love - Always & Forever | Scrapbook & Cards Today April Challenge

Hello and happy Sunday to you all!

Are you a reader of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine?  I've been a reader for many years and they started a monthly challenge this year.  I decided to take part in the April sketch challenge because, flowers!  I also recently tidied up my craft room - and came across some of my wedding photos, so I had to scrap my favorite one.

So I started with a gorgeous sheet of Bazzill Juneberry cardstock for my base.  I also had just seen Bea Valint's spring frame cut file and thought it would be perfect.  I cut the full frame and trimmed one of the sides to use.  I then used the Studio software to separate some of the flowers to create the back/inside cuts for a few of them.  I felt like I was playing "Operation" using the Studio knife tool zoomed in to get exactly what I needed to separate!

For the photo mat, I had to use that "So Happy Together" paper. And vellum always gives a pretty touch to wedding pages - I scalloped the top of my vellum first.  I sewed around the photo too to help frame it.  I fussycut the flowers with "always & forever" from a journal card on the 4x4 and 4x6 Vertical Journaling Elements paper.

The "LOVE" stickers go perfectly for the title!  I popped them up with some 3D foam dots.

I used many different enamel dots to fill in some of the flower centers.  I also did a fair bit of fussycutting, and I used the center of the little 5-petal flowers from the cut file to fill in for added variety.

{When It's Cold Out But You Want to Swim} Scrapbook & Cards Today sketch

Howdy y'all!  Happy spring to you.  I'm here today to share a layout that's a little bit winter, a little bit summer.  This is my sweet niece Sophie.  Back in November, she decided she wanted to swim and put on her bathing suit and her winter hat and gloves - because it was November. Adorable!  I think we've all been there.  :)

I am using a sketch from Scrapbook & Cards Today I saw in the Winter 2016 magazine and some Crate Paper Cute Girl and Snow & Cocoa as well as Maggie Holmes Bloom.  

The first thing I did was create a cut file inspired by a pattern on one of my papers I had laying around!  I cut it out onto a 6 x 12 piece of white cardstock using my Cameo and then adhered it to the striped paper.  And because I love to sew on my layouts, I sewed around some of the "petals".  And I used some large enamel dots as the centers.

To create my title, I cut out "When it's cold out but you want to" using Thirsty font - it's such a fun font!  I used Dear Lizzy Ooh La La Thickers to create "Swim".

All the fun elements and layers on the photo make me happy - like that cute penguin! And that Maya Road tulle flower from last year's SCT kit was a perfect change of texture.

I used two dies to cut a scalloped circle and the notebook page.  And sewing adds such wonderful texture...I rarely skip sewing on a layout!

Here's the sketch I used.  I tailored my layout for one photo since that's all I had to document.

You're So Fabulous Card - Scrapbook & Cards Today sketch

Hello everyone-

I wanted to pop in and share a card today.  Fun fact: my crafting journey started with making Christmas cards after I bought some Hero Art stamps in the late 1980s!

I used some new papers from Dear Lizzy Lovely Day collection, the DIY party tab punch from We R Memory Keepers that I won from Scrapbook & Cards Today, and "You're so" stamp and "fabulous" die cut from"You're So" by Reverse Confetti.

That white foil paper on the right gives me all the heart eyes!

I used the February sketch from Scrapbook & Cards Today.

I hope this inspires you to use some scraps to create a card for someone in your life!

Route 66 Adventure - Scrapbook & Cards Today Jan. Sketch Challenge

Howdy, everyone!  I decided to participate on Scrapbook & Cards Today's January sketch challenge.  I didn't win those awesome goodies, but SCT did share my layout on their blog! I only wish I had had the time to photo my layout using natural light - but I had to meet the deadline, so I used what I could.  I've updated it for you here today. 

The sketch had lots of photos, and I had just the thing to fill in all those 2x2s - our recent visit to the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.  It was a gorgeous day!

I also created a fun layout with photos from this day for Creative Scrappers sketch 303 if you missed it.

After I had my photos where I wanted them, I created a strip underneath using different size triangles from multiple papers, and I sewed along the top of the strip using a zig zag stitch.  I used a tag and a puffy heart sticker for my journaling.

On the top, I cut two thin strips of paper and sewed there, too.  Love these puffy heart stickers!

For the title, I used my die cut to create the scalloped circle and faux stitched circle.  Alpha stickers and the foam "adventure" create my fun title.  More enamel pieces plus more hearts were so fun to use!

Of course, you can't forget those acrylic clouds!  I used my tiny attacher to staple them to my page.

He Picked Flowers

Hello out there!  Did you miss my bloggy absence?  I took an unexpected month off - my day job took a bit more energy these last several weeks.  PHEW!  But I'm back!  Today I'm sharing a layout using Crate Paper Hello Love...what an awesome collection, amiright?  And although it has a lot of pink in it, I emphasized many of the other colors in the collection.  Take a look!

I based my layout on the Spring 2016 sketch from Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine.

What's not to like about that striped paper?  I layered some heart paper, the marbled green paper strip, some vellum I scalloped, and sewing for the base of the photo area.  It was a fluke that "so much love" showed at the bottom of the photo so I opted to keep it slightly longer to keep it rather than trim it to match the other three sides.

I created the title cutting "He picked" with my Cameo combined with those lovely Fancy Pants Designs alphas.  I used my Cameo to cut some flowers from Just Nick's Girl Power and layered them over the O.  I placed an enamel dot in the center to finish.

I scalloped another green marble strip and stitched it on the top.  I added another flower cluster too.

For the corner embellishment area, I completed the visual triangle with a third flower cluster.

For the journaling spot, I opted to print it out.  I used the font KG Always a Good Time to match the top part of my title.  I added more scalloped paper, stitching, a cut tab from the striped paper, and another enamel dot.

Et voila!

Pick a Pumpkin

Happy day out there in scrappy land!  Please, grab some chocolate and stay for a few minutes.  Today I've dipped my toes into fall - the weather has already started to cool just a bit here in Texas.  Yay!

Today I have a 2-page layout for you.  I haven't done one of these in awhile and I felt I had some good photos to spread out for this one.  I used the third one down from Scrapbook & Cards Magazine fall sketches for this one, stretching it into two pages, and I kept it simple.

I started with kraft cardstock and a Jillibean Soup placemat cut file which I cut using my Cameo and CTMH Cashmere cardstock.  I added a border to the left and right side of each page with some sewn strips.

I sewed around some of the circles on the placemat and also layered a green striped Bella Blvd paper behind one (with a punched star over it in a yellow stripe paper).

Over the right side of the placemat, I put black corrugate paper from Fancy Pants Designs.  It adds great texture!  I also cut a green stripe tab to tuck behind the photo of my sweet son, and added a few black enamel stars from Bella Blvd.  I also created an embellishment circle with sewing and a chipboard element from Bella Blvd.  I love my little pumpkins!  :)

For my title, I cut "PICK A" from black textured cardstock, and I cut "pumpkin" in a different font using the orange stripe paper.

I added another green stripe tab with a black enamel heart.  Another stitched circle and chipboard combo with another enamel element:

Then I added a strip of printed journaling to the side of the photo area, with a punched star on each side.

I need to go back and add the date, but this was fall 2014.

Well, that's all for me today!  I supposed we are getting close to adding hot chocolate to our evenings.  For me, that's the best part of cold weather.  :)
